For several years now, retailers have been pushing the opening time for Black Friday to be earlier than usual, as early as midnight, prior to Thanksgiving evening.
In the 2009 Thanksgiving, Kmart opened at 7:00 a.m. to let shoppers avoid Black Friday traffic and go back home in time for dinner with their families. Many retailers, after 2 years, started opening at 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. on what is now known as “Black Thursday.”

Black Thursday 2020
Several shops have pursued this kind of craze in the following years, opening the earliest on Thanksgiving Day or being open all day commencing in the early morning hours. Rather, other merchandise and media sources have employed the words “Gray Thursday.” For people who decide to stay home during this time, other shops provide similar online deals.
